Wheelwash popularity grows Down Under
Recent installations in Australia and New Zealand include this Rhino at Greymouth, on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island. Installed at the Port of Greymouth in March this year, the Rhino washes the trucks carting coal from the nearby coal mine for stockpiling at the Port Terminal, preparatory to it being loaded onto barges for transportation to local and export markets.
The Rhino created much interest on its journey from Lyttleton, Christchurch's port on the east coast, through the Alpine range and the picturesque Arthur's Pass. Arthur's Pass, which is often impassable during winter months, is probably best known for its role in one of the great train journeys of the world - The Tranz Alpine.
Another recent Wheelwash installation was for the Boral Group, one of Australia's largest quarrying companies. Shown here at Lysterfield, an outer suburb of Melbourne is a 6-metre Powerwash in operation. One of two installed at different sites for the Group, this wash is currently handling over 200 truck movements per day, many of which are supplying blue metal to the EastLink Tollway, a 39 kilometre project worth a$2.9 billion. The project, which commenced in early 2005, will be completed by August 2008.
